Hh. Masjuki et Ma. Maleque, INVESTIGATION OF THE ANTIWEAR CHARACTERISTICS OF PALM OIL METHYL-ESTER USING A 4-BALL TRIBOMETER TEST, Wear, 206(1-2), 1997, pp. 179-186
The aim of this study was to assess the anti-wear characteristics of p
alm oil methyl ester (POME) in elastohydrodynamic lubrication of EN31
steel ball bearings. A conventional four-ball wear testing machine wit
h different loads was used at 1500 rev min(-1) and a test duration of
1 min at ambient room temperature (approximately 28 degrees C). Optica
l microscopy of wear worn surfaces revealed the wear mode of mating su
rfaces. The results provide an understanding of the wear characteristi
cs of ball bearings under POME contaminated lubricants. It was found t
hat POME worked as an additive and improved the anti-wear characterist
ics. The flash temperature parameter (FTP) of the lubricant after each
test was also measured. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science S.A.
