V. Isidorov et al., GC-MS identification of multicomponent organic compounds mixtures using extra column phase equilibrium, CHEM ANAL, 45(4), 2000, pp. 513-520
The necessity for applying additional information to increase the reliabili
ty of organic components identification in their complex mixtures by the GC
-MS technique has been demonstrated taking as an example of essential oil o
f birch buds. It was shown that increase in reliability can be attained by
using additional identification parameters: retention indices (RI) and part
ition coefficients (K-p) Of mixture components in a system of immiscible so
lvents. A parameter j is introduced for identification convenience. It is a
function of both RI and K-p. Average K-p and j values are reported for mai
n groups of components in essential oil of plants: terpene hydrocarbons and
their oxygen-containing derivatives.
