In this brief commentary, we suggest that the cognitive-behavioral treatmen
t of trichotillomania is a complex but rewarding venture. We review the two
case studies of hair pulling presented by Roblek, Detweiler, Fearing, and
Albano (1999) and comment on an individualized, prescriptive approach to as
sessment, conceptualization, and treatment. A clinical and functional analy
sis that is informed by the context in which the hair-pulling behavior occu
rs is espoused.
