Abstract
This paper presents a numerical method based on finite elements to model th e coupling of an electromagnetic wave with a conducting wire inside a metal lic cavity having a small aperture. The voltage induced on the wire is calc ulated by solving the vector wave equation in the frequency domain through a formulation based on Edge elements. In order to avoid the discretization of the wire volume, the wire effects are taken into account by adding an ex tra term into the variational formulation. An extensive set of numerical re sults is included and discussed.
