Mg. Chikobava et al., Genotyping of Epstein-Barr virus in patients with different hematological diseases in the South of Russia., GEMATOL TR, 45(3), 2000, pp. 19-21
Genotyping for Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) was made using polymerase chain rea
ction with primers complementary to both types of EBV and primers specific
to EBNA-2A (EBV-A) or EBNA-2B (EBV-B). The presence of EBV and genotyping w
as studied in DNA from blood leukocytes of 18 children and 26 adult residen
ts of Krasnodar Region with hematological diseases. EBV sequences were reve
aled in 36 cases from 44 (81.8%). EBV-A was found in 22(50%) and EBV-B in 1
5 cases (34%). Double infection with EBV-A/EBV-B was present in 7 cases (15
%). Associations between type of EBV and certain type of hematological dise
ase were not detected. Our results suggest that type-PI EBV is a prevalent
sub-type in Krasnodar Region.
