Biological characteristics of virus producing lymphoid suspension cell cult
ure obtained from healthy monkeys and mon keys with malignant lymphoma have
been studied as well as morphostructural patterns of the cell substrate an
d its virogenic status. Cariotypic variations of the cells during continuou
s cultivation were detected. The cultures exhibited predominantly B-cell ph
enotype with some amount of T-cells and they were able to produce interfero
n-alpha and gamma. Lymphoid cells of monkey cultures producing 2 types of l
ymphotropic viruses (EBV-like herpesvirus and STLV-1) possess tumorogenic p
otential and produce generalized malignant lymphoma in the inoculated rabbi
ts.
