A coupled ocean-atmosphere general circulation model is used to investigate
climatic shift of El Nine in the Holocene. The model simulates a reduced E
NSO intensity in the early and mid- Holocene, in agreement with paleoclimat
e record. The ENSO reduction is proposed to be caused by both an intensifie
d Asian summer monsoon and a warm water subduction from the South Pacific i
nto the equatorial thermocline.
