Abstract
This paper describes a novel compact permanent-magnet synchronous motor wit h configuration of axial-field slotted windings, It is designed for driving an artificial heart. Both the motor rotor and the pump impeller of the art ificial heart are levitated by a magnetic bearing, Structure description, d esign considerations, and analyses for the motor and bearing are presented in this paper.
