A series of new tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) derivatives and related compo
unds with halogen substituents were synthesized. The compounds were ch
aracterized by elemental analysis, H-1 NMR spectra, electron ionizatio
n (EI) or negative-ion fast atom bombardment mass spectra (FAB-MS) ana
lysis, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra and UV-Vis spectral
analysis. The electronic absorption spectral studies on the new TTF de
rivatives revealed that the energy differences between the pi-orbitals
of the new TTF derivatives were smaller than that between BEDT-TTF (b
is(ethylenedithio)-tetrathiafulvalene).
