Nb/MoSi2 laminate composites have been successfully fabricated by hot press
ing in a graphite mould. Lamination of Nb foil and MoSi2 layer showed a suf
ficient improvement in the absorbed impact energy compared to that of monol
ithic MoSi2 material. The impact value of Nb/MoSi2 laminate composites obvi
ously is reduced when sintered at temperatures higher than 1523K, even if t
he composite density contributing to impact load increased along with fabri
cating temperatures. Impact value of laminate composites was also drastical
ly decreased with the growth of reaction layer after the heat treatment. Ho
wever, it was effective to increase the pressure at the same sintering temp
erature for the improvement of the impact value.
