The elastic properties of zinc-substituted lithium ferrites of various comp
ositions sintered at 1300 degrees C were measured at room temperature using
the ultrasonic pulse transmission technique. The Values of Young's modulus
(Y) and the rigidity modulus (n) are found to decrease with increase of zi
nc content. The elastic moduli of the specimens are computed and corrected
to zero porosity. The variation of Y and n with composition is interpreted
in terms of binding energy. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reser
