Abstract
Numerical results for the second- and third-order dispersion in PW prism-se quence (double prism-pair) with arbitrary apex-angle by ray-tracing method are presented. The influence of the prism separation distance and apex-angl e on second- and third-order dispersion is discussed. In certain conditions , the PW prism-sequence with small apex-angle (20 degrees) is a better choi ce to reduce third-order dispersion than single prism-pair without requirin g; excessive length. As a less dispersion material, quartz is suitable to b e used with the smallest possible value of third-order dispersion. This res ult could be the basis of dispersion compensation and pulse compression. (C ) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
