The 1,1'-ferrocenedithiolato-bridged (arene)-ruthenium(I) complex [{(p-cyme
ne)Ru}(2)(mu(2)-S(2)fc)] (4; p-cymene = 4-isopropyltoluene, S(2)fc = 1,1'-f
errocenedithiolato) was synthesized by the reaction of 2,2'-ferrocenedithio
l (1) with [(p-cymene)RuCl2](2) (2) and subsequent reduction with sodium am
algam; reactions of 4 with HOTf and MeOTf (OTf = OSO2CF3) afforded the hydr
ide complex [{(p-cymene)Ru}(2)(mu(2)-H)(mu(2)-S(2)fc)][OTf] (5) and the thi
olato-thioether complex [{(p-cymene)Ru}(2)-(mu-SfcSMe)] [OTf] (6), respecti
vely. On the other hand, treatment of [Cp*RuCl](4) (7;Cp* = eta(5)-C5Me5) w
ith 1,2,3-trithia[3]ferrocenophane (8) resulted in the formation, of the (1
,1'-ferrocenedithiolato) (sulfido)triruthenium cluster [(Cp*Ru)(3)(mu(3)-S)
(mu(3)-S(2)fc)(mu(2)-Cl)][FeCl4] (9).
