The seven-coordinate osmium(IV) dihydride cation [OsH2(kappa(2)-O2CCH3)(H2O
)((PPr3)-Pr-i)(2)]BF4 reacts with ethylene to give the tetraethylene dimer
complex [{(P-i-Pr-3)(eta(2)-C2H4)(2)Os}(2)(mu-OH)(2)(mu-O2CCH3)]BF4, which
has been characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis. Two ethylene molecule
s are disposed trans to the hydroxo bridges, and the other two lie trans to
the oxygen atoms of the acetate group.
