The development of coma in a patient with clinical and electroencephalograp
hic signs of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease generally indicates onset of the ter
minal phase [1]. In such situations, the physician may question the need fo
r intensive care or maintenance of mechanical ventilation in an intubated p
atient. We observed a case of completely reversible deep coma requiring int
ubation and ventilation in a context of lithium toxicity.
