Abstract
The magnetic fabric in folds was investigated in the easternmost Rheno-Herc ynian Zone, the Nizky Jesenik Mts. In their eastern areas, the rocks show s igns of only weak anchimetamorphism and very gentle ductile deformation; SE vergent buckle folds of long wavelength are developed whose magnetic fabri c can be easily unfolded geometrically. In the central areas, spaced cleava ge and NW vergent buckle folds can be found; the folds can be unfolded most ly only partially. In the western areas, NW vergent cleavage folds and very well developed slaty cleavage occur. The magnetic fabric in the folds is h omogeneous, the folds cannot be unfolded at all. The cleavage is transforme d into metamorphic schistosity at the western border of the area. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
