Abstract
The Ptecticus tenebrifer species group is defined on the basis of wing vena tion and the characteristic, elongated and exposed male cerci. Three specie s are considered to be members of this group: P. tenebrifer (Walker), P. re means (Walker) and P. erectus, new species. Ptecticus erectus is described and the other two species are redescribed. While P. tenebrifer is widely di stributed in the eastern Palaearctic and also in part of the Oriental regio n, P. remeans appears to be limited to Celebes and P. erectus is known only from Thailand. The new species, P. erectus, differs from the related speci es by the predominantly yellow ground colour of the body and structures of the male genitalia. P. illucens Schiner and P. sinensis Pleske are definite ly synonyms of P. tenebrifer (Walker).
