DYNAMICS OF N(CH3)(4)GECL3

The molecular and lattice dynamics of N(CH3)(4)GeCl3 have been investi gated by temperature-dependent inelastic and quasielastic neutron scat tering, and by Raman spectroscopy. The observed temperature-dependent quasielastic scattering indicates a quasi-free rotation of the CH3-gro ups at temperatures above 85 K and a reorientational motion of the who le N(CH3)(4)-groups at temperatures above 300 K. The N(CH3)(4)-groups interact only weakly with the GeCl3-groups. The structural phase trans itions at 170, 200 and 424K seem to be unrelated to the temperature-in duced changes of the molecular dynamics.
