Abstract
2-Methoxy-2-(2-naphthyl)propionic acid 1 and 2-hydroxy-2-(2-naphthyl)propio nic acid 2 were prepared by the Grignard reaction of 2-naphthylmagnesium br omide with (1R,2S,5R)-(-)-menthyl pyruvate. The absolute configurations of (+)-1 and (+)-2 were determined to be S by the H-1 NMR anisotropy method. ( C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
