Abstract
Brittle fracture of components containing a crack of arbitrary orientation and subjected to biaxial loading is analysed based on the Mode I and Mode I I stress intensity factors and fracture toughness relation. The critical or ientation of the crack and the determination of the applied stress intensit y factors in principal directions are discussed.
