Global population issues have received inadequate attention from population
geographers in recent years. The paper lays out a framework for research w
ork in this area. Such work would include examination of the population con
sequences of global environmental and economic processes, analysis of the k
ey demographic processes producing changes in population structures around
the globe, and research into the population impacts of policies instigated
