We investigated by neutron scattering the rod-like magnetic contributi
on in Nd2CuO4 along Q=(0.5,0.5, q(l)) (q(l) being continuous). A direc
t comparison with Pr2CuO4 suggests that the Nd moments are mainly 2D o
rdered above 40 K, with virtually no magnetic correlations along the c
-axis. This result is in agreement with recent magnetic X-ray measurem
ents. We also observe critical fluctuations at each Cu spin reorientat
ion in Nd2CuO4.
