A single-crystal neutron diffraction study has shown that below 170 K
the tetragonal T' structure of Eu2CuO4 is orthorhombically distorted (
space group Acam). The distortion is similar to that found earlier in
Gd2CuO4 and as follows from the refinement on the structure factors co
llected at 20 K it can be described as a rigid rotation of the CuO4 sq
uares by an angle of 2.3 degrees around the c-axis.
