Among microbial agents, helminths are the most common cause of eosinophilia
. An approach to the evaluation of a patient with eosinophilia is outlined,
with particular emphasis on clues in the history, examination and routine
laboratory data that can help with the diagnosis. Multiple helminthic infec
tions have been associated with eosinophilia, and the characteristic modes
of spread, clinical manifestations, diagnostic tests and therapeutic consid
erations of these infections are discussed.
