The microstructural evolution upon thermal annealing of the bulk amorp
hous alloy Zr11Ti34Cu47Ni8 was investigated by means of small-angle ne
utron scattering (SANS) and X-ray diffraction. The results are compare
d with those from the metallic glass Zr(41)Ti(14)Ci(12.5)Ni(10)Be(22.5
). In both cases, inhomogeneities of about 2 nm extension have been de
tected upon annealing and interpreted as decomposition of the amorphou
s phase. In the Be-free metallic glass crystallization occurred simult
aneously with the decomposition.
