The theory and practice of measurement of atomic momentum distribution
s by high energy neutron scattering is outlined. Energy transfers 1 <
omega < 200 eV and momentum transfers 30 < q < 250 Angstrom(-1) are ob
tained on the eVS spectrometer at the ISIS neutron source by use of a
resonance filter difference technique. Applications of this technique
to molecular hydrogen, quantum fluids, hydrogen bonds, amorphous mater
ials and metal hydrides are referenced.
