Nonporous polystyrene/poly(sodium styrene sulfonate) (PS/PNaSS) microsphere
s were used for immobilization of amyloglucosidase and the properties of im
mobilized enzyme was studied and compared with those of free enzyme. Sulfon
ated groups on the PS/PNaSS microspheres present a very simple, mild, and t
ime-saving process for enzyme immobilization. Nonporous microspheres provid
e their surface for immobilization of enzyme and prevent the diffusion limi
tation problem in the pore. Despite the high concentration of bound enzyme
the influence of immobilization on kinematic parameters, K-m and V-max, is
relatively low compare to other porous supports. Simple and time-saving imm
obilization procedure as well as the effects of pH and temperature on immob
ilized enzyme also showed that the PS/PNaSS microspheres could be good supp
