Abstract
The ultrasonic group velocity (f approximate to 4 MHz) in heavy water was measured within the temperature limits 277-313 K in 1 K intervals using two independent velocimeters of the sing-around type. A third or der polynomial was fitted to the results. From the measured velocity a nd the literature values of density and heat capacity, the adiabatic a nd isothermal compressibilities were calculated. A fairly good agreeme nt between the measured values and the literature data was found. Some observed minor discrepancies are discussed and explained.
