Am. Ryan et Re. Ployhart, Applicants' perceptions of selection procedures and decisions: A critical review and agenda for the future, J MANAG, 26(3), 2000, pp. 565-606
This review critically examines the literature from 1985 to 1999 on applica
nt perceptions of selective procedures. We organize our review around sever
al key questions: What percetions have been studied? What are determinants
of perceptions? What are the consequences or outcomes associated with perce
ptions applicants hold? What theoretical frameworks are most useful in exam
ining these perceptions? For each of these questions, we will provide sugge
stions for key resesrch directions. We conclude with a discussion of the pr
actical implications of this line of reserch for those who design and admin
ister selection processes. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Inc. All rights reserv
