Abstract
One-step synthesis of novel 1-methylindole trimer and tetramer under Friede l-Crafts reaction conditions is reported. The use of excess of the substrat e and the catalyst and application of elevated temperature were necessary f or success of the synthesis. The complete structures of the products were u nambiguously elucidated by single-crystal X-ray analysis, and rationalizati on of their formation is attempted.
