MON 65500 represents a novel class of fungicide, the hindered silyl amides,
that selectively inhibit the causative agent of "take-all" disease in whea
t, Gaeumannomyces graminis var. tritici. This paper indicates that the prim
ary mode of action of MON 65500 is the inhibition of transport of the adeni
ne nucleotide, ATP, from the mitochondrial matrix. By preventing the export
of ATP to the cytosol, all extramitochondrial energy-dependant processes a
re disrupted, leading to cell death. (C) 2000 Academic Press.
