In this work we report the discovery of an F center in a novel quaternary a
lloy dielectric crystal, mixture of four alkali halide components. The F ce
nter is an electron trap in the crystalline matrix of the novel crystal. Th
e X-ray diffractometry spectra show a crystal with a single phase that impl
ies a single F band that was obtained by optical absorption spectrophotomet
ry. The generalized Vegard's law, valid for a recently reported novel terna
ry crystal, was extended. The F band energy, obtained by a simple theoretic
al model and by an empirical relation near to the Mollwo-Ivey law, using th
e lattice constant obtained by X-ray diffractometry and extended Vegard's l
aw, is calculated.
