T. Miura et al., Anomalously strong screening effect in collisions between noble-gas ions and carbon in C-60 - art. no. 021201, PHYS REV A, 6202(2), 2000, pp. 1201
We have performed an experiment to measure the angular distribution of quas
i-elastic scattering of the noble-gas ions He+, Ne+, Ar+, and Xe+ with an i
ndividual carbon atom in a C-60 molecule at incident energies up to 10 keV.
The measured differential cross sections have shown an anomalously strong
screening effect compared with those in the case of scattering on an isolat
ed carbon atom. Effective interatomic potentials have been evaluated numeri
cally from the measured cross sections. They were found to be modeled well
by a Moliere screening potential, but strongly modified by an additional sc
reening function represented by a simple Woods-Saxon-type function.
