The NOMAD experiment has sought v(mu) <-> v(tau) oscillations by looking fo
r the emergence oft in events from the CERN SPS neutrino beam. With some im
provements in the techniques of analysis in relation to the results publish
ed previously and with the inclusion of data from the 1998 run, no evidence
for the oscillations has been found, which results in an updated limit on
the oscillation probability [P(v(mu) --> v tau) < 0.5 x 10(-3) at a 90% C.L
.]. The corresponding limit on the oscillation mixing angle is given by sin
(2)2 theta(mu tau), < 1.0 x 10(-3) for large Delta m(2). By using a 1% cont
amination of v(e), in the neutrino beam, we can also rule out nu(e) <-> nu(
tau) oscillations land constrain the probability of the relevant transition
as P(nu(e) <-> nu(tau)) < 3 x 10(-2) at a 90% C.L. (sin(2)2 theta(e tau) <
6 x 10(-2) at large Delta m(2)). (C) 2000 MAIK "Nauka/Interperiodica".
