E. Pesonen et al., Transcatheter closure of post-infarction ventricular septal defect with the amplatzer septal occluder device, SC CARDIOVA, 34(4), 2000, pp. 446-448
There is an 80-90% mortality rate within the first 2 months of the occurren
ce of a post-infarction ventricular septal defect (VSD) with medical treatm
ent alone. The muscular VSD presents a technical problem for the surgeon. S
urgical treatment was unsuccessful in two patients. They were treated succe
ssfully using the Amplatzer Septal Occluder, with improvement in their cond
ition.
