Jm. Kindelan et al., Primary genotypic resistance to nucleoside analogues in naive HIV-infectedpatients in Andalusia (Spain), SEVENTH EUROPEAN CONFERENCE ON CLINICAL ASPECTS AND TREATMENT OF HIV-INFECTION, 1999, pp. 37-41
The prevalence of resistance to nucleoside analogue reverse transcriptase i
nhibitors (NARTI) was analysed in 106 naive HIV-infected patients in Andalu
sia (Spain). Specific mutations in codons 41, 69: 70, 74, 184, and 214/215
were analysed by line probe assay (LiPA), and the polymerase chain reaction
(PCR) was used to analyse mutation in codon 75. Mutations were observed in
at least one of these codons in 10.38% of patients. Mutations detected wer
e as follows: 2 in position 41, 4 in 70, 3 in 184 and 3 in 215. Only one pa
tient presented multiple mutations (codons 41 and 215). No mutations were d
etected in codons 69, 74 and 75. These results agree with those reported by
other studies performed in other areas of Spain. The prevalence of primary
resistance in these areas should continue to be monitored on a regular bas
is.
