E. Raise et al., Efficacy and safety of efavirenz in combination with NRTI in HIV positive patients, SEVENTH EUROPEAN CONFERENCE ON CLINICAL ASPECTS AND TREATMENT OF HIV-INFECTION, 1999, pp. 107-110
Objectives: to evaluate the safety, tolerability and efficacy of Efavirenz
((DMP 266) in 36 experienced asynptomatic or midly sintomatic HIV1 Infected
patients (pts) who failed therapy with 2 NRTI and 1 PI. Methods: 36 experi
enced pts were enrolled: the prior treatment was the association of: zidovu
dine + lamivudine + nelfinavir or saquinavir (cohort I), and stavudine + la
mivudine + ritonavir or indinavir (cohort 2). The treatment was switched to
an association of stavudine + lamivudine and efavirenz (cohort 1); in the
cohort 2 the therapy was changed in an association with zidovudine + lamivu
dine and efavirenz. Results: after 24 weeks of treatment there was a signif
icant increase of CD4 subset and a decrease of viral load. The treatment wa
s well tolerated, 5.5% of pts had skin rash and transient dizziness (41%).
