Although AIDS affects especially young people, older persons are not free f
rom this disease. We undertook this review to describe the clinical present
ation of HN disease in older patients. In our hospital since 1994 we have a
ttended 10 HIV infected patients over 55 years of age at the time of diagno
sis. In our elderly-patients the main transmission path is the sexual behav
ior. The HIV infection was generally unsuspected and patients were diagnose
d when the immunity is seriously compromised and suffering from disastrous
infections and in critical clinical circumstances. Compared with younger HI
V infected people, the incidence of others no infectious problems were prob
ably greater. And finally the older complications of remote infections (neu
rosyphilis) were more frequent.
