A facile and efficient method for the preparation of new meso-arylbisdipyrrins

The phosphorous oxytrichloride mediated condensation of diaroylbipyrroles 5 a-e with the alpha-unsubstituted pyrrole 2 was found to produce diarylbisdi pyrrins 6a-e in good to excellent yields. The method is compatible with a s eries of functional groups on the aryl substituents. This papa reports prep arative and spectroscopic details for five new diarylbisdipyrrins as well a s those for one meso-unsubstituted alkylbisdipyrrin.
