A study of medium and large domestic manufacturing firms in Latin America s
hows that the region's new economic model has led to significant transforma
tions in firm behavior. The study results may not be generalizable, however
, since the sample is small and not statistically representative. Neverthel
ess, they provide insights into the behavior of the most modernizing domest
ic manufacturing firms, and into the role of policy aimed at encouraging fi
