The clinical and biochemical determinants of high-density lipoprotein (HDL)
and triglyceride response to simvastatin and atorvastatin were assessed in
150 patients with severe hyperlipidemia treated in a randomized open-trial
format design. Triglyceride reduction was only dependent on HDL:apolipopro
tein Al, change in apolipoprotein B, and dose response, whereas an increase
in HDL was dependent on initial LDL, change in LDL or dose response, and t
herapy with simvastatin.
