Research in petroleum chemistry has been the basic direction of scientific
research in the Department of Organic Chemistry and Petroleum Chemistry sin
ce it was founded in 1927. Initiated by Academician S. S. Nametkin, this di
rection was continued and developed in the research of his students and fol
lowers: V. I. Isagulyants, A. V. Topchiev, N. S. Nametkin, and G. M. Egorov
a [1]. Many students were conducted together with the Institute of Petroche
mical Synthesis, Academy of Sciences of the USSR (formerly Petroleum instit
ute, Academy of Sciences of the USSR) and Institute of Geology and Processi
ng of Fossil Fuels, Academy of sciences of the USSR. They include studies o
f the composition of crude oils, synthesis of model hydrocarbons, nad catal
ytic conversion of hydrocarbons. Such well-known scientists in our country
and abroad as Al. A. Petrov and I. V. Kalechits participated in this resear
