Abstract
Melanin synthesis has been associated with Virulence for the human pathogen ic fungus Cryptococcus neoformans. Recent evidence indicates that C. neofor mans cells synthesize melanin during infection and that this pigment protec ts the fungus against immune defense mechanisms.
