Abstract
This note presents and discusses a number of properties a measure of indivi dual deprivation should satisfy. The axioms we propose are necessary and su fficient to characterize Yitzhaki's index of deprivation making the structu re of the index more transparent. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science S.A.
