Abstract
The investigation of soil algae in the Valaam Island has proved that there are definite relationships between the species composition and abundance of algal flora and the type of soils and vegetation. The algal flora of anthr opogenic soils differs radically from the algal flora of the initial brown forest soils. It is characterized by a stable species composition with an i ntensive development of nitrogen-fixing algae (Cyanophyceae) and a consider able diversity of yellow-green and diatomaceous algae.
