Abstract
Numerical simulation of the Cr:YSO Q-switched Cr:BeAl2O4 tunable laser is s tudied along the three principal axes of the Cr:YSO saturable absorber. The nl axis has the best Q-switching performance when compared to the n(2) and n(3) axes. Theoretical expressions of important parameters such as the las er population inversion at various stages, the peak photon number inside th e laser resonator, and the output energy and the pulsewidth of the Q-switch ed laser pulses are derived and used to evaluate the characteristics of the Cr:YSO Q-switched Cr:BeAl2O4 laser system.
