Ei. Segarra et Ed. Glandt, MODEL MICROPOROUS CARBONS - MICROSTRUCTURE, SURFACE POLARITY AND GAS-ADSORPTION, Chemical Engineering Science, 49(17), 1994, pp. 2953-2965
A new molecular model for activated carbons is presented, which consis
ts of a collection of randomly oriented carbon crystallites. The carbo
n displays energetic heterogeneity as a result of its complex microstr
ucture and surface polarity. Adsorption isotherms and isosteric heats
of adsorption for methane, ethane and their binary mixtures were estim
ated by grand-canonical Monte Carlo simulations. Simulations of the ad
sorption of water vapor were performed to adjust the surface polarity
of the adsorbent.
