A novel random-signal source has been designed and fabricated by using comp
elmentary metal-oxide-silicon (CMOS) chaos multivibrator. When the outputs
of two multivibrators are summed, a signal with sufficient randomness was o
btained. This circuit can be integrated within an area comparable to that o
f 2 or 3 units of flip-flop circuits and can be operated with a delay time
nearly equal to that of 3 stages of logic gates. These features promise the
useful application of this signal source in various novel information-proc
essing LSIs.
