Tunable mid-infrared radiation was generated by difference-frequency genera
tion in MgO-doped periodically poled LiNbO3 crystal by mixing of dual-wavel
ength pulses emitting from a Ti:sapphire laser, which was tuned with an int
racavity acoustooptic tunable filter. A tuning range from 3.6 to 5.6 mu m w
as obtained without any mechanical rotation of the nonlinear optical crysta
l and other laser elements.
