K. Fothergill et A. Feijoo, Family planning services at school-based health centers: Findings from a national survey, J ADOLES H, 27(3), 2000, pp. 166-169
Although nearly 1000 school-based health centers (SBHCs) operate in the Uni
ted States, little is known about SBHCs' sexual and reproductive health ser
vices. This study investigated reproductive and sexual health services deli
very in SBHCs, specifically the types of services available in SBHCs. A 16-
page, self-administered questionnaire asked center staff to identify the re
productive health services provided on site as well as which services were
restricted and by whom. The results suggest that whereas most SBHCs provide
d at least one reproductive health service, most centers were restricted fr
om providing contraceptive services, usually by school district policy. (C)
